Check if something is made by AI in 3 taps
- Add it. Upload a photo or video, paste a screenshot, drop in a link to an image or post, or paste text.
- We check it. We read any AI labels hidden in the file, then run several open-source AI detectors on the pixels (or the words).
- Get a clear answer. You see a verdict, an AI-likelihood score, a confidence level and the reasons — then share it with one tap.
What makes this AI detector different
- Images, videos and text in one place. Most AI checkers only do one. Here you can check a viral photo, a suspicious video clip and an essay without switching sites.
- Proof when it exists. Many AI tools now stamp their files with Content Credentials (C2PA) or IPTC “AI-generated” labels. We read those labels, so when a file still has one, the answer is confirmed — not guessed.
- Several detectors, not one. A single model is easy to fool. We combine multiple independently trained detectors and only call something AI when they agree.
- Explains why. Every result lists the evidence: labels found, camera data, what each detector said.
- Really free, really private. No account, no limits page, no paywall. Everything you check is deleted automatically within 24 hours.
- Made for phones. Big buttons, works with your gallery and camera, and results you can share straight to WhatsApp, Messages, X or Facebook.
Which AI tools can it detect?
Our detectors are trained on images from the most popular generators and we keep adding new ones. You can check images and videos from:
| Type | AI tools |
|---|---|
| Images | ChatGPT (GPT-4o / GPT Image), DALL·E 3, Google Gemini & Nano Banana, Imagen, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion & SDXL, Flux, Adobe Firefly, Microsoft Copilot / Bing Image Creator, Meta AI, Grok, Ideogram, Leonardo, Recraft |
| Video | OpenAI Sora, Google Veo, Runway, Kling, Pika, Luma Dream Machine, Hailuo / MiniMax and others (we check several frames plus the file’s labels) |
| Text | ChatGPT, GPT-4 / GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Llama, Mistral, DeepSeek and other chatbots |

How to tell if an image is AI — even without a detector
Detectors are a great first check, but your own eyes help too. Look for:
- Hands, teeth and ears — extra or merged fingers, too many teeth, earrings that don’t match.
- Text and logos — signs, labels and jersey numbers that turn into gibberish when you zoom in.
- Too-perfect skin and lighting — glossy, poreless faces and studio light in places that shouldn’t have it.
- Background mistakes — railings that melt into walls, repeated faces in crowds, shadows going the wrong way.
- No original source — real news photos can usually be traced back with a reverse image search.

How accurate is it?
No AI detector is perfect — anyone who promises 100% is overselling. Here is how to read your result honestly:
- “Confirmed” means the file itself says it was made with AI (or signed by a real camera). That is as close to certain as it gets.
- “Very high” or “High” confidence means the detectors strongly agree.
- “Medium” or “Low” means mixed signals — often a screenshot, a heavily edited photo, or a very new AI model. Look for the original source.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check if a picture is made by AI?
Tap Upload and choose the picture, or paste it, or paste a link to it. In a few seconds you get a verdict (like “Likely AI-generated” or “Probably a real photo”), an AI-likelihood score and the reasons behind it.
Is IsItMadeByAI really free?
Yes. Every scan is free, there is no sign-up, no credit card and no watermark on your results. The site runs on open-source detection models, which is how we keep it free.
How accurate is it?
When a file still carries Content Credentials or other AI labels (common for ChatGPT, Gemini, Firefly and Stable Diffusion files) the answer is essentially certain. Otherwise we combine several open-source detectors; they are right most of the time on unedited AI images but can be fooled by screenshots, heavy compression, filters and brand-new generators. That is why every result shows a confidence level and the evidence behind it — treat it as strong evidence, not proof.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes — it is built phone-first. Tap “Upload”, pick a photo or video from your gallery (or take one), and you get the answer on the same screen. You can also paste a screenshot, an image link, or a link to a post. Then share the result straight to WhatsApp, Messages, X, Facebook or anywhere else.
Can it tell if text was written by ChatGPT?
Yes. Switch to the Text tab and paste at least 40 words (150+ is better). You get an overall AI score plus a section-by-section breakdown so you can see which parts look AI-written.
Do you keep my photos, videos or text?
Only briefly. What you check is kept for at most 24 hours (so we can investigate wrong results and abuse) and then deleted automatically. For videos, your browser pulls out a few frames for the check; the full video is then uploaded in the background so we can review results, and is deleted with everything else. Nothing is published unless you tap Share, and then only a small preview is saved.
Can I check a screenshot or an image I found on social media?
Yes. Screenshots and re-saved social media images lose their file labels, so the result relies on the pixel detectors alone. Crop to just the picture you want to check (no app buttons or captions) for the best result.
Why did a real photo come back as AI (or the other way round)?
Heavy beauty filters, HDR or “AI enhance” modes on phones, upscalers and strong compression can all look synthetic to a detector. Very new or heavily edited AI images can slip through. Look at the confidence level and the “Why” list, and use the 👍 / 👎 buttons — your feedback helps us tune the detectors.
